Why compare them? Why should you have to decide?

Sorry, but I dislike comparative thinking when it comes to choosing something better than something else, unless the topic is restaurants. :-)

Both films are exquisitely made, and have excellent stories. And it's terrific that Stephen King finally branched out from horror writing. I remember when I first read "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" and thought it would make a very good film, so I was delighted when someone made one. Frankly, that film is an improvement on the short story, because the narrative and plot were slightly rearranged and better clarified.

I never read the "Green Mile" when King released it as a serial novel, so I don't know how the film compares to it. But the film was extremely well done, with a great script and production design, and a nearly perfect cast. Very, very engaging.

I enjoyed Shawshank a bit more. Don't know why, I just do.

I think Shawshank Redemption is the better overall. An excellent movie with excellent acting.

I'd like to call it a tie, but since you ask which is better, I'd have to say "Shawshank."

Yes, both actors were incredible. Cast in both movies is great, but something about the Robbins charactor puts that movie out in front by a hair.

This is hard! They're both great. But I'll have to go with Shawshank Redemption.
