thats set up like google where you can search videos, images and so onbecause google and nhl.com's search doesnt cut it

There's a little thing called copyright laws.
Most of the NHL pictures you see online are a violation of copyright laws and I know both the league and several photographers have lawsuits pending against people uploading video and photos depicting images owned by the National Hockey League

Setting up an infrastructure to store and search photos and videos is very resource intensive. And to have it very responsive, flexible and what not requires a very different skill set than the typical web development.
It requires an extensive skillset in multimedia, and then search indexing. Factor in 82 games per team, 30 teams, 2 teams per game, so that yields 1230 total games per year. If I did the math right, thats 60 playoff games minimum. So 1290, so maybe 1300 per year.
60 minutes per game, not all of it interesting, but let's suppose all of it is there. So that 78,000 minutes. 4 minutes of high quality video is about 1 GB. So that's 19,500 GB of high quality video.
Then track down decades of existing film.
Now factor in a group that has to index and management the search functionality.
That's a lot of resources, and there is no revenue stream for it.
Too bad too, cause I'd love to see it. Just have to settle for highlights and youtube captures.

I think that would be pretty cool, if NHL legally put that together.... The guy above me said stuff about copyright, well as long as NHL makes it, i think that perfectly fine. That would be really cool. But check out the NHL channel on youtube it has some pretty sweet vids. :D
