i've looked everywhere and cannot find the answer.PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

You need to think logically. In the desert, there are very few of the resources that humans need to survive. Therefore, few settlements. Before modern transportation methods, river travel was one of the fastest and most used methods. Cities built on a river thrive. Cities built on an intersection of waterways have that much more of a chance for trade, communication, access to resources etc.
