What are the main points raised by the authors of The Federalist Papers.
Why were these issues important to a new nation?

Federalist paper 10 is a continuation of Federalist Paper 9 (written by Alexander Hamilton) and the first Federalist Paper authored by James Madison. This was focused on the concept of factions and the idea that the size of the (new) country would minimize them. While Hamilton used the writings of Montesquieu, Madison personally analyzed the nature, causes, and effects of factions. He saw them as the product of, and the price of, liberty. His intent was to define ways to control them rather than suppress them.

Federalist 51 was the final paper in a series of papers beginning with Federalist 47 and addressing the Maxim which requires a separation of the departments of power. All of this series was written by James Madison. In 51 announces his solution to the problem of the separation of powers and offers a solution to the ‘problem of ordered liberty. Referring back to Federalist 10 he finds security for civil rights not in charters or in appeals to humanity, but in the multiplicity of interests that characterizes a free society.

Federalist 78 was written by Alexander Hamilton where he examines the doctrine of judicial review, stating, “. . . . Whenever a particular statute contravenes the Constitution, it will be the duty of the judicial tribunals to adhere to the latter (the Constitution) and disregard the former (the statute). (he continues his thoughts on this subject through Federalist 84) These thoughts are significant since the Constitution (itself) is silent on the processes of the court and it would take many years to formalize acceptable court procedures.

As an aside - Adams had nothing to do with the Federalist Papers in that they were written by three individuals, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay.

10 and 51 were both Adam's doing, not so sure about 78. What Adam's was doing was trying to convince the public through explanation that a federal government with a system of checks and balances was the best form of government. I be live 10 had something to do with the organization of the federal government and 51 had to do with separation of powers and checks and balances.
