I don't think the Jena 6 should be seen as modern civil rights heroes. They weren't trying to integrate a school, or fighting for equal rights. They were just 6 black teens who felt threatened, so they jumped 1 white student. They were over charged with the crime, they spent some time in jail. There were protests for them, & now they're being treated like martyrs.

Well no I hate to say it that does not surprise me. I mean while hanging a noose in a tree is wrong, it is a far cry from 6 kids ganging up and beating the crap out of 1 kid. Now how did they feel threatened by one white kid. If it was say 5 maybe, yeah I could see that. If it were 6 white kids and one black kid, I would say he would feel threatened. 6 on 1 is not a threat it's a lynching. They should have gone to school officials or the police. You can not take the law in your own hands!! That's why we have laws. They should have spent some time in jail. I am glad they did, that's where they belonged, but they are now out which I would say is good. I mean it's not like they killed the white kid or anything. If I was in charge of the school system I would expel all of them all the white kids who hung the rope up in a tree and all the black kids who took things into their own hands. They have no place in a school where kids should be learning! The black kids are not heroes or anything even remotely great. They are a bunch of want to be tough guys. The white kids are not bigots, but stupid rednecks trying to act like they run the show. They all should be thrown out of the school system and then the educators need to explain to the other students way what both groups did was wrong. My lord, when is everyone going to stop playing like they are always the victim!!!

HOWDY!!! James, No and I agree with you. The attack on the other student was not part of the noose thing. He was just a White Boy in the wrong place at the wrong time. The white boy did no crime. I guess that's the way it goes. They want to get a lot of att. they can shut the HELL up and go fight in Iraq if they are that hung up on fighting. I know they would find a lot of fighting to do.
Al Sharpton was at a hearing that the senate had this last week with the same old BS. C-SPAN or C-SPAN2 carried the thing. I am not a racist but when they pull the stunt they pulled they should be LOCKED UP. If it were you or me beat-ting a Black or White they would put us under the jail and no one would have know where we were at. I'll give it up for now. It angers me. Crime is Crime.

Well if you put it that way, then no. But apparently in Louisiana they are still 50 years or so back in time, so for that state they are seen as being advocates for civil rights.

no but I'm surprised you took the effort to look up a video taping about them that occurred yesterday to start an argument out of thousands already posted.
They were overcharged period.

Lets look at it from Another perspective if it had been 6 whites boys doing this to a black kid I don’t believe it would have made the news and if it did it would probably be one of the things that they just talked about for 30 seconds. Also they problem would have gotten suspended for like a week other that go to jail for like a month
Think about they wouldn’t have just started beating him up just for fun the he must of said something to offend them and it must have been big for all six of them to jump him.
And it’s a shame that some of you call yourself Christians and go to church every Sunday and Wednesday and say such racist comments. It hurts because it took nearly two hundred years for us blacks to get respect we need and want and for us to go back a good 50 years is just a shame now. I am not saying that the boys didn’t need to get a punishment that was just too harsh.
Also I know for a fact that if you have black parents they would probably beat the h*** out of u when they found out what you did and get a good punishment.
also I want to hear there side of the story lately all u hear is the edited side of the story the side that is in the middle because the radio news and more don’t want seem racist and get taken of the air like DON IMUS we saw the true side to this men similar to whets going on now I believe that if DON IMUS WAS A BLACK he would have gotten his show taken of the air and be sentenced to jail its just a shame to see what’s Americas coming out to be.
I just leave it GOD he is the only one who can see what is right and wrong and who will give the right punishment

No, I'm not surprised. There needs to be a discussion about it, but I wouldn't treat them like martyrs. To be honest, I'm tired of hearing about it. As far as the person that's sick of black people: you need to get mad at the people who own BET (Viacom), not blacks in general.

I could not care less what "BET" does. I long ago deleted them from my Direct TV profile on principle. If you really think they were "over charged," maybe they will beat the h*ll out of you next. ..so call me a racist as could not care less about that either.

no surprise to the mental state of african people.
HOWEVER, I'd like to know the history of the tree in jena. was the tree used as an exclusive symbol to unify whites and to signify the hatred that was to demean the black presence under or around the tree?
Or did white students just happen to pick that tree to social in gist to the black kids picking their own exclusive spot for black students to socialize?
If what I am thinking is right, then that black student instigated a common, social occurrence among those two groups, and used race to disgustingly blow it out of proportion.

they are not being seen as modern civil rights heroes. all 6 of them did not beat up that white boy. if six of them actually beat him up he would be dead. he went to the hospital and went out 2 hrs later. that was a school fight. they shouldn't have been charged at all. i've seen school riots way worse than that and no one has gone to jail.
