Yes and No yes if you were given permission by the owner in writing. Many salvage companies buy the building salvage rights to all scrap found on and in the property while in the process of demolishing the building. having said the above the no is pretty plain to see.
If you take copper with out permission it is theft. You can and will be prosecuted then convected. When you bring copper or any scrap to a yard they take down your drivers lic. Why? Because they are reselling used goods and need a used goods resale lic #. if the goods are stolen and the police go to the yards and find the "lot" the "lot" will have your # on it.
How do i know this? I work as a maintenance mechanic in a jail. as an employee of the county d.p.w. i have seen first hand friends and coworkers go down hard and loose the jobs for a few dollars. don't do it without permission.

NO because the company doing the demolition has probably the rights to dispose of all the salvageable materials on the site... So you would be stealing.....So leave it alone Earn a living legitinately

by "take" you mean "steal", don't you??
that copper and all the other debris belongs to the property owner, who has the sole and exculsive right to strip it for sale to recycling. It/he/she/they PAID for it.
