Nuclear studies - use of nuclear energy would include studies in materials structure, readiation effects, healing - use in medicine such as cancer treatments. radiation also pevents decay and rot in some organic materials. Studies in genetics and effects of radiation are inmportant. Since we are destroying the atmosphere and protection afforded by the Ozone layer, it is necessaryt o understand effects of radiation from the sun and space as well as treatment of the resulting cancers that are increasing in frequency and severity. Many uses not even mentioned here.

nuclear energy and power plants are pretty much linked. you can't have one without the other
if you're talking about radiation and/or radioactive isotopes, there's food preservation (fruits and vegetables, maybe meats). there's medical uses (radioactive dye tests)
