Sad music... go for gothic rock. The Smiths, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, Sister of Mercy. All great. Or if you want something more modern, and more "melodic", perhaps try some Evanescence.

Alot of classical music could be construed as sad. However, when I feel down I listen to death metal. Try it.
