I don't know about Selfridges specifically but I used to be a Visual Merchandiser at another department store and the props/decorations etc are specially made for a particular display 'story' (eg. Christmas) and depending on the type were either thrown away/recycled after use (things like posters & cardboard promotional stands, flimsy decorations) or for more expensive/substantial items, sent back to the central VM offices/storage. This would include things like Christmas trees or large window backdrops, although we had to store quite a lot of them ourselves. Mannequins are kept for years and reused.
If you are basically asking whether Selfridges will give ex-display props to you, this is extremely unlikely, but no harm in trying! We certainly would never have got away with it though.

I think they just get put into storage to be used again. I once saw a beautiful silver cloak in the window of a bakery. It was being used in a display and I actually got my mum to go in and ask if it was for sale and they said no and that they would be using it again the next year so when they're finished with it it would go into storage 'till then. I was quite dissapointed.
