I hope not. If it doesn't give you the runs or seriously dehydrate you, consider yourself lucky. If castor oil was so safe and effective, don't you think they'd be using in hospitals to incude women's labor?
Try patience instead. It's worked for centuries!

I wasn't foolish enough to try it. I called my doctor and asked their opinion of it. She said "absolutely do NOT try it". Now that I am a nurse working in labor & delivery, I know why.
At best, castor oil is not reliable and effective to start labor. At worst, it can make you very very sick, to the point of needing to be hospitalized for dehydration. And sometimes, as a result of the maternal illness that can be caused by the castor oil, the baby can become stressed in utero and have a meconium bowel movement, which makes you a high-risk delivery. If a baby aspirates meconium into the lungs, it can lead to respiratory infection and difficulty breathing. It is VERY serious. I have seen some very sick mothers and babies as a result of their experimentation with castor oil.
If doctors felt castor oil was safe and effective, they'd use it instead of pitocin to induce labor. At the least, they'd recommend it to their moms to take it at home - but they don't.
I work in a hospital with over 10 OB-GYN groups that deliver there (which means about 100+ OB-GYNs and 20+ midwives), and NONE of them endorse taking castor oil.
Talk to your doctor. It never ceases to amaze me the number of women who think it's ok to take a medication NOT intended for labor induction without consulting with their physician first. People take their advice for 9 long months, painstakingly avoiding risks to their baby, but for some reason, they don't think this is important enough to mention to their doc. I just don't get it.

seem you're purely 2 days previous due, you will bypass yet another week or so. the toddler will come while it relatively is waiting. you are able to ask for a membrane sweep once you're some week late and for induction once you're approximately 10 days previous due (even regardless of the undeniable fact that i would not advise this). My buddy used castor oil and her toddler exceeded meconium interior her and he or she mandatory an emergency c-section and the toddler grew to become into in icu. So in case you desire to probably injury or misery your toddler, bypass forward yet some greater days of waiting won't be able to kill you, in fact you need to rejoice with something at the same time as you are able to!

Yes. I recommend you don't do it. My Mother In Law told me to do it as I was overdue. All I got was diarehha for two days. It did nothing as far as the onset of labour.
It's not a smart thing as you become dehydrated from the loss of fluids as the castor oil takes effect. It definatley doesn't work. I wound up getting IV fluids. It was embarrassing!!!

DON"T do it! I have 2 friends who did this and they both had severe complications during birth. Both of their babies passed the meconium and ingested it, which resulted in the babies being born very sick. Let labor take its natural course, it's well worth it.
