Yes, you can have a 50cc motorcycle, with or without gears.
ST had it right - the only thing to add is that if a machine with a 50cc engine has a design speed exceeding 50 kph (31 mph) it is classed as a motorcycle. Mopeds built after June 2003 should be limited to 45 kph (28 mph)

specify a incredibly motorbike 50cc engine. You look in uk and limited for a year or which you may the little engine cycles- so perchance get a Honda 40 9/50cc ruckus or a SYM 50 with 4 stroke engine as a substitute of one of the few manufacturers of two strokes nonetheless allowed on highway. Aprilla nonetheless makes an extremely quickly little 2 stroke for some markets- and it relatively is variety of noisy. Older 2 stroke Kymcos for some markets have been very quiet in assessment- that they had a greater extra muffler/spark arrestor at end of enhance chamber piping. This comparable variety of spark arrestor is needed for some cycles to function on park trails regionally- and the cycles get somewhat quieter. while you're turning out to be to be some variety of small 2 stroke engine to holiday a year or so much less costly or given to you, look on the spark arrestors with a greater baffle as nicely the cyclonic twisted plate and a repackable fiberglass or metallic wool mesh outer ring end.

Any two wheeled vehicle with an engine is a motorcycle by definition. Just because one may be classed as a moped for licencing regulations does not make it any less of being a motorcycle.

Trust me on this one. A moped ( presuming its newer than 1977) is two wheeled machine , 50cc or less engine capacity AND having design speed of 30 mph or less.Anything other than than all of the above is a motorcycle. If its pre '77, its less than 50cc with ability to be seperately propelled by pedals.ie old FSIE's.Speed didn't come into it then.So if you have a 49cc machine from say 1990 that's been 'played' with and will do 45mph, or a big bore kit fitted taking it out to 65cc,it's a motorcycle.

In the U.K. the legal definition of a moped is, "Any motorised two wheeled vehicle, with an engine capacity NOT EXCEEDING 50cc and a maximum design speed not exceeding 50km/h." (VOSA).
So if it's less than 50cc it's a moped. If it's more than 50cc, it isn't. Simple, really!

Years ago, I bought a Yamaha DT50 street and trail as a daily commuter. I went to get insurance, the company asked what cc is my engine, I said 49cc, and they said "well that considered a moped, that will be $38 for the year please" Thanks small engined motorbikes :) Now, thats here in Canada so your region may be different.
