I sincerely hope not. I'd rather have common sense and justice reigning over me than some nut screaming patchwork scriptures.

No, and they never truly were. They just happen to be the most vocal and influential within conservative Republican administrations. Christian fanatics bombard the airwaves with their spiteful and dangerous ideology and play on people's emotions and fears, garnering their movement more support and money.

No, they're actually a small proportion.

But they vote, and they usually vote in every election and for offices at all levels. That's a big part of why they've had so much influence on politics. (Especially in schools, as they vote for school boards, and few other people do.)

If the more than half the people who usually don't vote would, we might be able to have a civilized country. Assuming they voted intelligently, which I guess is a stretch.

My understanding is that they're pretty demoralized; many of even them are disgusted by Bush, and by all the scandals (gay sex scandals at that) among Republicans. So people are predicting they may stay home next election.

One can hope.

Of course not, they merely have influence because they are a rather large section of the right wing, which was in power in Congress, and still is in Power an the Executive branch.

Yes but only by a small margin. A lot of sincere Christians don't vote because of no Godly candidates, so if they did the conservatives would win by a land slide instead of by just over half the votes.

The religious right wing is very vocal, very loud and quite united.

Fortunately most Americans don’t belong to that group and are leery of religious political influences on government.

Nope - they're about 25% - and the whole Bush debacle has fractured them.

You would be better off asking if the majority of the right wing are religious. Yes, we do believe in God, but we are not a bunch of fanatical maniacs who mix politics with religion.
And yes, we conservatives are in the majority in the United States!

God Bless America, and all her people!

No, but they do believe in heterosexual marriage, family and are against abortion, so the do tend to reproduce. I'd say the gay abortion crowd is a self-limiting problem for them.

No, but religion of some kind is the majority. Why not have your candidate running for President say that verbatim in the next debate?
