Can I use dry ice and hot water to make smoke for a theatrical play?

Will it be healthy? The theatre is indoors, will the smoke clear after a while?

You probably can. If it does what you want, then use it. In all the productions I have worked on, Smoke Machines have usually been used - possibly because of the nature of the production. All smoke machines have a small element of risk to health. As for clearing the stage, yes it will clear, but you will have to work out how much to use, plus the atmosphere will alter what happens. If you have air con, then it is likely that it will get sucked up. If there is a draft, it will move and disperse quicker. If it is hot and little air flow, it will hang around for much longer. It is all trial and error, and even then, no two shows are the same. How big the room, how hot and how many people in the audience, what is happening on stage can all make a difference. If it is just at little bit of smoke needed, otherwise you may need a smoke machine rented by theatrical supply houses. but the co2 will clear out and has no smell or harmfull effect and the smoke machine stinks and hangs around unless you have good air exchange in the building

I'm not sure about the dry ice thing but you could use a fog machine less problems in my oppinion
