Early in the relationship I hinted I would like something to wear on my finger. That Christmas my partner was very excited when he handed me a great big huge box with a bow on it.
He had bought me a bowling ball thinking I could wear it on three fingers and that he was very clever. He couldn't understand why I wanted him to wear the bowling ball as a hat.
The worse part was I don't even bowl.
I still have the ball somewhere and we still laugh about that cold Christmas day.

An iron.
On the other hand, the children made us both open one gift to each other at the same time last Christmas. We'd bought each other almost identical Anthony Worral-Thompson saucepan sets! That was funny.

I once bought my wife an electric cement mixer for her birthday. It came from B & Q, and was orange. Its now at the end of the garden as a feature. I also know of one man who bought his wife a car trolly jack for xmas, in case she ever had a flat tyre on her car.

My girlfriend bought me a cat and loosely wrapped it in a cat basket. She didn't live with me and so left it just inside my garage back door expecting me to find it when I went to work on my motorbike. However I went to work in my car and after work went away for the weekend without going home. Come Monday I found a slightly hungry and very dead cat.
But the upside is, the dog next door devoured it in seconds, so at least he gained from it. Poor cat.

He bought me a coat - Never worn because arms too long. Gave it away after a number of years.

I have a red dress - never worn, waiting to be given away without his knowledge. It's too young, I feel uncomfortable in it. He bought me a blouse, too finniky. I love him and he tries, the gorgeous hunk.
