You have to be firm. He has a lot of nerve asking you if he can stay. Tell him that you need your privacy and the agreement was for one day only. Don't be nice or he will take advantage of you. It is not your problem to give him a place to stay. Tell him to be gone by morning or you will have to call the police.

you have to tell him that he has to go and suggest that he try to see where he can get a place to stay through social services perhaps or where ever he was living before he went to jail. He may be the type of person who uses everyone, so pack his bags for him and set them by the door and ask him if you can drop him off somewhere. If he starts to be too much of a nuisance and not wanting to leave tell him you will have to call the police to have him removed and get a restraining order to keep him from coming back.

Offer to help him look for somewhere more permanent to stay. He'll get the message that this can't be permanent, and it gives you an active role in getting him out, without seeming rude.

Be very firm and let him know it was a one day arrangement ONLY, let him know he needs to make other housing arrangements immediately and escort him and whatever belongings he brought with him to the door. Do not waver, even if means getting a bit rude.

You don't even know if he'll ask, so you may not have to do anything.

But if you do, just be apologetic, but definite and firm.

"Sorry, but the place just isn't big enough for two."

If you want to find out whether he intends to stay, you can ask him if he knows where he's going, yet.
