he said....but he gave me just in case to use later a presctiption for thrush. On the other hand, my breasts experience after each feeding, a sharp pain deep inside and my nipples are very red and sensitive...what should I do? Use the medicine he prescribed for my baby's mouth? What about my breasts..is this pain normal? It's because of the suction?

From what I have read, you and your baby both have a yeast infection (thrush in the case of your baby). You are passing it back and forth. By your description, you do have the yeast in your breast ducts. Give your baby the medicine. It should go away and your breasts should recover as well once his infection clears.

BTW-Your doctor will not give antibiotics and don't take any. Antibiotics makes thrush worse because its a fungal infection, not a bacterial infection. Thrush and bacteria balance each other out because the bacteria eats the yeast. That is why women who are on antibiotics sometimes get yeast infections in the nether regions. Don't listen to anyone who tells you to give your baby antibiotics for a yeast infection.

use the thrush cream it won't harm your baby, my little girl had the same, it tastes of oranges and she liked it. Also your nipples could be sore because of the feeding, if your baby is feeding more than every four hours then this is your skin toughening up, avoid nipple creams they soft the tissue and actually add to the pain, instead use a little of your breast milk on the nipple after you have washed and then a little of the thrush cream. If the pain doesn't go by ten weeks go back to the doctor. Also check the position of your baby when they are feeding, they should be tummy to tummy with you, your health visitor will help they are much more useful than the doctor on most occasions. Hope this helps

There is NO POINT in treating a breastfed baby for thrush and not treating mom, particularly when she has obvious signs of having thrush in her milk ducts.

There is also no point in treating mom and baby if you don't also treat anything the baby puts in their mouth, cloth diapers, mom's bras. Etc. Laundry can be effectively treated by putting 1/3 to 1/2 cup of vinegar in the rinse (use the fabric softener dispenser). Bleach can not be used in a high enough concentration to treat thrush in the laundry. Things that can be boiled (pacifiers, bottles -if used, certain teething toys) should be boiled at least once a day. Other things can be treated with a grapefruit seed extract solution.

The pain from the fungal infection goes on throughout the feed and may continue even after the feed is over. Women describe knifelike pain from the first two causes. The pain of the fungal infection is often described as burning, but may not have this character. A new onset of nipple pain when feedings had previously been painless is a tip off that the pain may be due to a yeast infection, but the pain may be superimposed on pain due to other causes. Cracks may be due to a yeast infection. Dermatologic conditions may also cause late onset nipple pain. There are several other causes of sore nipples.

I think you probably both have thrush i had exactly the same thing. I would use the thrush cream for your son and maybe get some for you too or else you will just keep passing it back to himj.

Good luck

Check the baby is latched on properly, not just taking the tip of the nipple.
Baby probably does have thrush. It's very common.

Sounds like thrush to me , my Dr told me my son's isnt that bad but i requested the prescription Nystatin anyway .. My daughter had thrush alot , Nystatin didnt work and eventually hers got worse ..and we had to use the something Violet on her ? It was horrible its bright purple and it gets on EVERYTHING and basically your baby turns purple from sticking hands in their mouths and drooling .. its a mess , I think i would use it to be safe .. you dont want it getting to bad and having to use the dreaded purple stuff ...As for your breast that sounds normal and for the dryness try some lanolin its all natural and it works wonders also your baby can still nurse w/ the lanolin ..

You should continue the medication for the baby. Your nipples will be sensitive for a while after starting breast feeding, it takes some time to toughen them up. Ask your doctor for some ointment to put on your nipples after the feedings, it will help.

sounds like you have thrush in your nipples from baby, very common, your doc should have given you medicine too, so go back or ask your health visitor.
