THEY WERE SAILING INTO THE UNKNOWN WHICH CAN BE FRIGHTENING EVEN TODAY AND SOME PEOPLE THOUGHT IF YOU SAILED TOO FAR YOU'D GO OFF THE EDGE AND BE LOST FOREVER. IN ADDITION THERE WAS NO GUARANTEE IF YOU FOUND LAND THERE WOULD FIND ANYTHING WORTH THE TRIP. COLUMBUS MADE 4 TRIPS TO THE NEW WORLD AND DIED IN DEBTORS PRISON.
