my vendor says that using a combination of RAMs is beneficial...coz even if one of them crashes the system wont stop working

one 512 for sure. Because with all of those things of ram, it will take longer for the computer to load stuff then it would if you simply got one stick of 512 ram. believe me I've had this problem before.

If you've got all those RAM sticks then cant you just just all the best ones? (512, 256 and a 128 MB)? the bigger the number at the end of the day, the fast the computer :)

In order to get the computer to see your ram you must put your 512MB stick in slot 1, the 256MB in slot 2, the 128MB sticks in slot 3 and 4, you always start from the highest MB stick to the slowest or you computer will conflict with the ram, also make sure the ram is the same speed eg PC-100 or PC 133.

if you have the smaller Ram already then use it . The difference between it and 1 512 card will be very small. You should check disk space and the size of your virtual memory.
One 512 or even 1 gb memory would be better for future memory expansion.

It depends if you're using DDR ram, and if your motherboard supports Dual Channel. Then you want two slots of the exact same ram to use the dual channel feature. It would be better if your motherboard supported more than 512MB's of ram, say 1024MB's,(commonly called 1GB). How about going to Crucial.com, and using their Crucial System Scanner, for free? You can also go to CPUID.com, and download CPU-Z to see what's in your system, as far as components,(what mobo manufacturer, what model, same with processor, ram, etc.)

Hi i am a microsoft programmer, 512MB is better because it does not confuse the system unless you have the sensor type hard drive i forgot what its called, it knows that theres more then one type of ram.

If you have two 256MB sticks then it would be faster because it would run in dual-channel mode but two 128MB and one 256MB wouldn't do the job.
