Marijuana becomes legal, or cigarettes become illegal

Marijuana becomes legal. Too much tax revenue will be lost by banning cigarettes, and then you'll have the same problem of black market commerce.

Neither of the above. Cigarette smoking is decreasing steadily year by year, currently about 20% of the population. I believe it will become rarer than hen's teeth and usage so restricted that for a lot of people it just won't be worth it. But marijuana will never be legalized because it would cut severely into the profit margins of the alcohol industry, which is a very powerful lobby.

Marijuana will probably become legal, but with a lot of restrictions. Right now, law enforcement is wasting their time trying to fight it. Marijuana use is just as prevalent now as it ever was.

If cigarettes became illegal, it would only add to the problem. Crime would skyrocket. There wouldn't be enough law enforcement personnel to even put a dent in the smuggling and illegal sales.

Marijuana won't become legal. The issue is too politically charged.

Cigarettes won't become illegal either - they will just become too expensive due to taxes for most people to afford.

Stay tuned for people growing tobacco plants in their garages like people grow marijuana plants today.

If people want something they will find a way to get it - legal or not.

Prohibition of alcohol in the U.S. proved that. It failed and caused the crime rate to soar.

I'd think cigarettes would become illegal before marijuana becomes legal. We already treat smokers like crap... like they're disgusting outsiders. And the overwhelming studies and facts that cigarettes kill you, etc. etc. etc.

Marijuana becomes legal

Pot will prolly be legal first. The taxes imposed by federal and local government makes cigarettes too much of a cash cow. The latest health care proposal (that was vetoed) was planning on taxing cigarettes for the next decade or so to pay for it.

Cigarettes becoming illegal. In some places they're actually trying to keep you from smoking in your own home if you live in an apartment or condo because the smoke can get out.

Legalizing marijuana.

Cigarette taxes are valuable, and cigarette companies have lots of lobbying power. Besides, once a person is addicted to a legal substance, it would be horrible for them to have to turn to a black market to continue their addiction.

They are working on making cigarettes harder
to buy using taxation illegally.
(One has the right to decide, therefore the argument
for the taxation that it causes more health risk, therefore more
health cost is not valid. In all fairness, they are not putting the same "health risk tax" on pesticides, car emissions, upgrading plant emission filters, or other pollutants . { the pesticides in the tobacco are the biggest cancer causing
agent.})
Next it will be beer! Taxation without representation comes to mind. And these "legislators" actually are thwarting the constitution that they are sworn to uphold.
