They say that he uses his staccato pecking to attract a female's attention.
He pecks and pecks and pecks at my home, at 5 a.m. in the morning!
How this bird can be so exasperatingly stupid: what female will
listen to his staccato at five a.m.! And will try to interpret it!
How can I make him understand that it's not the best time for
attracting females, and that my house is not that good a resonator either, but there is that hollow tree miles and miles away from here, in the woods, where there will be heaps and heaps of female woodpeckers, rather than here?

sounds like bird has a runaway pecker, the best solution is to get a decoy of something that eats them and put it somewhere they can see it. they will leave in a hurry

I had one working on my roof last year. I just ran outside and yelled at him. Only had to do it once. Well twice, he did come back a few months later.

Since then I've noticed a certain hawk that hangs around my yard from time to time and things have become pretty quiet. I fear for the squirrels.

I have one that pecks on the steel TV antenna tower. If you find a way to discourage this, please post it.
