Most law schools do not really care what your undergraduate major is -- they only care about good schools and good grades.

However, depending on what field of law you want to go into -- having an undergraduate background can help. For example, if you plan to practice patent law -- software, or electrical engineering, or chemistry are good majors. If you plan to go into politics, political science. If you want to work for a corporation, business law. And so on.

But that's for your benefit -- not for the school. However, if you can, take as many paralegal classes as possible -- being familiar with the basic concepts you'll encounter in law school will make your first year that much easier.

Some schools offer a course of study called "pre law", but it is not required to get into law school. A Bachelors Degree, good grades, and a high score on your LSAT's is much more important than the course of studies you take in college.

History is a good major for a wannabe lawyer because it hones your writing skills... all of them research papers. It also gives you a background on the "why" of the law and how it developed so that you can more readily understand the underlying rationale. Surprisingly, math is also a good major, because it teaches you to think logically and analytically, allowing you to extrapolate previous decisions and apply them properly to your present problem.

Good luck to you... the first year they scare you to death... second year they work you to death.... and third year they bore you to death.

there are some schools that offer a political science major with a focus on pre-law, but nothing that is strictly pre-law. you can study anything & get into law school. you should probably study philosophy or english to help you learn writing and logic for when you're in law school.

That's true. I took archaeology and writing in my undergraduate program. Just make sure you practice the LSAT, get good grades in ANY program, and you'll be fine.

Some undergrad programs make it much easier to get a well paying job, though - engineering or hard science can get you intellectual property positions.

No, i'm comfortable with somebody expressing any opinion, despite if it differs from mine. yet do no longer tell me i would be unable to do something while that's sparkling some persons are doing the very comparable subject without consequences. Oh definite...unusual how I certainly have all of sudden run out of stars...hmmm
