There are no signs that indicate that your membranes are about to rupture. I don't understand what you mean by "rumbling" - maybe it's gas bubbles?
It's normal to have a sore back - you're carrying a lot of baby weight around! And it isn't "back labor" - you can't have back labor without being in labor - AND - it's not "back labor" unless the baby is facing posteriorly - sunny-side up, with baby's spine lying along mom's spine. Some women just naturally feel their labor contractions in their back even when it isn't true back labor.
If you aren't contracting regularly, you're not in labor. It's totally normal to get more crampy, more aches and pains, more sharp, sudden stabbing pains (ligament pains). But if you are ever not sure of what's happening, always call your doctor. Even after-hours and on weekends they have answering services and will have a doctor call you at home.
FYI - if you're worried about your water breaking, just wear a big, overnight maxi pad. And bring an extra pair of pants in the car. ;)

I am also due to have my first next Saturday! Congrats to you and me!!!
The rumbling and back pain could be early precursors to labour, but they don't necessarily mean that your waters are about to break. In fact, only 10 - 15% of women have breaking waters as their first sign of labour. Normally it happens when you're further into labour, and often the waters are broken by the midwife.

I agree with the others..ur best bet is to call your dr. or midwife and get on a monitor..sounds like labor is starting...as for going out...its ok to wear a pad in ur undies this will help in catchin waters wheather it be urine from the baby pushing on your bladder or the trickle if your water does break...and if it should blow while ur out..dont worry..most ppl will understand seeing you and your belly ...lol so check with dr. and relax and enjoy the evening out..cuz once that baby is here alone time will be few and far between...take care and congrats.....

Sounds like you're in slow labour. So yes your waters may be ready to break. Call your midwife for peace of mind. Good luck with the birth and hope all goes well for you and your little one. :) x

You could be having back labor. I would call the doctor and they can put a monitor on you to check it out. I thought an old back injury was acting up, but by the time I got to the hospital I was already dilated to 9.

The back pain is a sign of labor. I don't think you can really tell when your water is getting ready to break.

Sounds like very early labor. No way to tell your waters are about to break. In fact, you could be in full labor with your waters still intact, in which case your delivery team might break the amniotic sac to move things along.
