in 1500 the population of the UK was about 4 million vs 64 million today. London had a population of about 50,000 and was by far the biggest city in England. The standard of living had improved from that of the dark ages and average income per person was about $2 a day which is the level the UN sets as the poverty level in the world today. By 1600 the population had reach 6 million and the average income per person had grown to nearly $3 dollars a day. During the century their economy grew almost 1% a year which is slow by modern standards, but large compared to the economic growth rates they had experienced since the fall of Rome.

Dark Ages. There was not much money for anyone to record that period of time with the exception of the banks which were kings and queens.
People did not want their money pence shillings either as it was too much trouble to keep and then have everyone in their society want to go to any length to steal it. What was being poor back then was actually living good. But if these were all supposed to be city people and no longer knew their pagan ways, they would be very poor. If they could escape the armys and wars then even without their coins they were happy.
