There were so many battles going on at precise times it is actually hard to pick just one battle. It was a series of all of these battles that became "The Final Blow", compounded by the dropping of the bomb for their refusal to surrender.
**************************************
They all contributed to the final blow.
Towards Victory
It was the fanatical resistance on Okinawa that convinced the allied command to use the Atomic Bomb. After Japan gave no response to the Potsdam Declaration of 26 July demanding their surrender

One issue which has often been raised is racism. It was said that the reason the US dropped the A-Bomb on the Japanese and not the Germans was that the Germans were white but the Japanese were yellow. However, a recent interview of Col. Paul Tibbets, the Commander who actually dropped the A-Bomb on Japan and who is still alive, revealed that the original plan was to drop the A-Bomb on Germany. This plan was did not come to fruition only because the A-Bomb was not ready to be dropped yet. The Germans surrendered on May 7, 1945, which was before the A-Bomb was ready.
Japanese fleet was destroyed at Leyte Gulf in October 1944, the U.S. was able to carry out uncontested bombing of Japan's cities,
"The Japanese position was hopeless even
**before the first atomic bomb fell **because the Japanese had lost **control of their own air.
" Also, without a navy, the resource-poor Japanese had lost the ability to import the food, oil, and industrial supplies needed to carry on a World War.

I'm sure what is wanted is "C" but this is a great illustration of what is wrong with multiple choice questions. This is in fact very controversial. Many would argue that it was the Soviet invasion of Japanese-held Manchuria and rapid defeat of Japanese forces there which was more important.

In my opinion what the Americans did with bombing of 2 major cities is the largest terrorist act ever commited. You dropped a nuclear bomb on millions of women children and other non-combatants.
Some argue it was for the greater good, it's hard to say i guess..

The Bomb without question. Sad to say we are the only country that has resorted to that, much was learned from that, especially how much devastation the bomb was capable of.
