Okay so for the last week or so i have had the worst time trying to make a BM. I have increased fiber, ate prunes, drank prune juice, eating fruit, and nothing seems to help. My doctor has already said he doesn't want me taking stool softeners, why i don't know. I feel like i have to go but the second i sit on the toilet nothing happens. I have even eaten spicey food thinking it will help get me going i've even tried apple sauce, nothing is working.
I feel severely clogged up. I really need to go but nothing is happeneing what else can i do.
I am only 18 weeks pregnant so i know its not labour or anything i'm desperate here people and am willing to try anything.

I would question your doctor's decision to not have you take stool softeners. That seems WAY out of line. Stool softeners are safe to take in pregnancy - we give them to pregnant women in the hospital ALL the time.

Call him and ask him for his reasoning, because you've tried everything else already, and there's no reason you need to be uncomfortble like this.

Hey there,

Your doc is probably a little overly cautious because some stool softners can be addicting in that, if you use them enough, your body is trained to NEED them to go. As long as you are careful to not use a stool softner too much ( on a daily basis or if the only way you can go is with the softner would be a good indication that you are using them too much), it's probably safe to use some of the pregnancy approved products. I would try Colase, which is approved or Psyllium which is like Metamucel. Pregnancy causes constipation so this is very common. It sounds like you are doing all the other things I would advise you to do.

Hope this helps!

I'm thinking chocolate, lol. Maybe Metamucil, mixed with very light lower abdominal exercises. Good luck.

Take metamucil; it has natural fiber. I took it when I was pregnant. You will probably need to take it twice a day.
