It won't look good for long if this keeps up. Something mechanically wrong with the suspension is causing the tire to improperly contact the road surface.

You need to physically inspect this. The information you give is not enough for me to get a sense of 1. is it the bearing, 2. are the brake pads worn down and grind on the disk? 3. is the wheel nut not tight enough so that the wheel may move too much?
I am sorry, this you need to jack up, try to see if there is movement in the wheel sideways (by sideways I mean, take with your left and right hand on each side of the wheel and try to move each side back and forth toward you-- this should not be possible at all -- if it is you have a problem that needs immediate attention.)
try to see where the sound comes from.
If it is the bearing you should hear a kind of grinding sound when you turn the wheel, if it is the pads that are worn down you should be hearing more of a screeching sound.
If you are next to it when you do, your ears should easily tell you from where the sound comes from.
Be careful that the car is securely jacked up if you are sitting in a position that could hurt you.

Well with it being a 1989 car:
I know it is either the wheel bearing or the brakes.
Does it only grind when your turning -
or when your braking?
If it's not one of the two - then I would say take it to a suspension shop -

Best bets are the brakes or the wheel bearings. The noise when braking suggests that the brake pads are worn down to the metal and need immediate replacement.

Two possible reasons: Car w/disc brakes will make noise at wheels.
1) Brake Caliper loose, causing pads to shift:worn pads.
2) Rotor Bearing needs replacing.
I am assuming your car is FWD.

Maybe its a ball joint or your brake pads or discs need changed.
If you have big wheels it could be affecting your suspension - take it to a garage to get it checked out. If you listen for worse road noise and a bit of a hum i would say you just need the ball joint replaced.
