I was reading a post from someone from about an hour ago asking about the removal of cough and cold medicines for kids. I think it was good that they took them off because I don't think they really work. But, do you think that uneducated moms will try to use the grown-up medicines on their children in smaller doses now? That could really be harmful! Do you think some people might try to do this? It really scares me!

Yes, there is no doubt that some mothers, or fathers, will try the adult medicine route. It should scare anyone as to the possibly fatal consequences. But if they do use adult medicines all you can do is hope that it doesn't kill their kids, or that they wizen up to the dangers of it before anyones health is impaired. We'll see. But yes, it was a good move to take such swift action by removing children's cough syrup before it could cause more harm, I don't believe it works either, but then again I try my best to stay away from all kinds of medicines.

One of the mom's in the daycare I work at was giving her daughter a dose for a six your old last year and this little girl was only 10mo!! I couldnt believe it!! Some parents put their children in danger all the time. I would hate to see something happen to other children but would have no remorse for the parents whose children may die because of their stupidity! I also go to my son's ped. to get sometihng he thinks is best. I never self-medicate my son, it's dangerous and I don't trust most OTC medicines anyway.

I asked a question on here yesterday about this. I am going to continue to give my son children's cold meds. He was born almost 3 months early and he NEVER had a problem with any of them because I followed the correct dosages. Too many parents don't know how to read the dosage charts or give two meds that have the same ingredients. If they are safe for a preemie they are safe for other infants/toddlers. Parents just have to be careful and read the information.

I think moms deserve a little more credit than that!! There are some nutsos out there but they are a minority ! I do feel like doctors might have a bit more work ahead but they will make more money I think most of the parents who are incredibly furious are the ones who use this medication more often than it is needed BUT, not intentionally!! This is far more the dug companies fault than the parents...

they took them off the market because parents were overdosing their kids with this cold medicine...not because it is harmful...........yes i think that some uneducated parents will try this as well but it is a BAD IDEA!!! they could overdose their kids and seriously harm them!!!
