Hi to all

It's been a while since I have done maths!

How do you expand and simplify?

e.g. 2(3x+4) - 3(4x-5)

Is the answer 18x-15??

Or do you take away the x's instead of adding??

Thankyou

Ohh!! I missed the 8.

So it's....

6x+8-12x-15
= -6x + 23

(",) Finally understood Thankyou!

2(3x+4) - 3(4x-5)

Consider only first part 2(3x+4)
Here the sign between 2 and (3x + 4) is multiplication
so to open the bracket, multiply each and every term in the bracket with it's signs. Here only 2 terms are there in the bracket
So 2(3x+4) = 2 × 3 x + 2 × 4 = 6 x + 8
Now second second part (– 3) × 4 x + (–3)(–5)
= – 12 x + 15
2(3x+4) - 3(4x-5) = 6 x + 8 – 12 x + 15
= 6 x – 12 x + 8 + 15 ----------- rearranging the terms
Now 6 x – 12 x here 6 x smaller than 12 x you cant not subtract directly. In such cases do subtraction and keep the sign of greater number in the answer.
so 6x – 12 x = – 6x
6 x – 12 x + 8 + 15 = – 6x + 23

Do the multiplucation first and you get

6x+8-12x+15 Add the similar terms next tp simplify

-6x+23 is the result

salam ninja

You already got a lot of answers, but here is one more.

2(3x+4) - 3(4x-5) = 6x + 8 - 12x + 15 = -6x + 23

do it slowly
2(3x+4)-3(4x-5)
Open the brackets
=6x +8 -12x+15
Rearrange the elements
=6x-12x + 8+15
=-6x + 23

do it slowly
2(3x+4)-3(4x-5)
use destribuitive property
=6x +8 -12x+15
add like terms
=6x-12x + 8+15
=-6x + 23
choose me as best : )

First you expand the bracets seperately:
6x + 8 - 12x + 15

then you colect like terms:

-6x + 23

That's it...
