One word: RACISM...just like blacks Latinos: (Mexicans, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Chicanos and so forth), Asians, Arabs and any other non-white person comes in many different shades of colors and body types. It's not what's in demand. It's who is running Hollywood: Jews, gays and lesbians. Caucasians are running Hollywood and America. I know acting jobs are hard for minorities but non-whites needs to take a stand have more respects for their race. Maybe some Latinos feel they will be more famous if they play, accept, date and marry white. Currently Ugly Betty is dating a white man and Penelopa Cruz always date white men. I know both JHo, Jessica Alba, Eva Mendes just to name a few played in black films and with black men then switch over to play white women in films. There are some famous dark skin Latinos but they don't get the same media attention as the white Latinos.

Hollywood? Have you taken a look at the soap operas (telenovelas) made in Mexico? Virtually every woman in them is "white".

Generally speaking, TV tends to give people what they want. If there was a demand for darker Latino actors by the general audience, you can bet you'd see a lot of them. Apparently, even in Mexico itself, it's the lighter-skinned ones that are in demand.

It may have something to do with the fact that the Spanish (Europeans) were the ruling class in Mexico for so long, while the native population were subjugated. Unfortunately, people tend to identify with the values of the wealthy. The Spanish/European concept of beauty may have so permeated Mexican culture that Mexicans themselves may now consider Indian features less attractive.
