IT IS VERY BAD but if it is not making noise and the oil pressure is ok...you got lucky...
it was still not good for it.
i am assuming it is full of oil now

There was a tv ad a few years ago about some engine treatment.
They had a car run without oil. One had the treatment, and the other did not.
The one without the treatment went 500 and some miles before seizing.
Your engine was damaged for sure, but to what extent depends upon how long it was run without oil. As an engine runs, friction wears parts at contact points. Oil reduces the friction, and therefore reduces the wear. Take out the oil and the engine wears a lot faster.
So it depends mostly on how long it was run low on oil. You may have "aged" your engine a few hundered miles or 10's of thousands of miles. But if it still runs, keep driving.... and check your oil more often.

You don't say for how long. There is bound to be some damage to the internal parts due to increased levels of friction caused by the higher concentration of particulates in the oil. First, check for leaks. Second. change the filter. Third, replace the oil with a light HD oil like 5w-40. Run for 1000 miles checking repeatedly for leaks. Fourth, replace the oil and the filter with your regular oil. This will remove as many particulates as possible without removing the oil pan or rebuilding the engine. P.S. no oil=high friction=unbelievable temperature=pistons expanding faster than the cylinders. The damage becomes exponentially greater every minute the engine is run during these conditions.

Yes the car engine could be very severely damaged if not practically destroyed if driven for too long with too little oil. Once the engine seizes you're looking at either an engine rebuild (at the very least) or even a new engine.
Hence the reason you check your oil at least once a week & always before long journeys.

Well the lower the oil is the less lubrication it gets from crank pick up witch gets flung on all kinds of stuff. But your primary oiling is through the oil pump and as long as it had oil pressure the whole time the damage is minimal. Fill it and drive it. If the damage was severe it would be seized already.

you're starting to be saved it. At this factor i could replace the oil and start up making use of one viscosity grade bigger than your vendors instruction manual demands. If the e book demands 5W-30 attempt 10W30. be constructive there are actually not any obvious oil leaks and verify the oil point another day. If 10W-30 would not decrease your oil intake dig around and stumble on a 15W-40 gas engine oil. the subsequent step could be a 20W-50. evade 10W-40 in a gas engine in any respect costs. self sustaining checks have confirmed that when an extremely short volume of time the 10W-40 would not circulate like a 10 weight at start up-up. by way of additive programs it useful properties viscosity at low temps.

yes, excessive wear will have taken place by virtue that there was only a tiny bit of oil and that (oil) will have broken down a lot quicker.
best policy in car engine is to check it weekly without fail
my Renault (other makes have this) shows me the oil level every time I switch on
hope your engine not badly damaged, you will find out when you go on long journey.

Just put oil in....the engine will be completely ruined without oil.
It happened to me once...a car I only used for work--so I kept forgetting the oil light was going on. Someone borrowed it, and it blew up 5 miles down the road.
Oil is CHEAP compared to a new car!

depends on how low , and for how long , fill it up and keep a eye on the the level . there is a reason it got low , you need to find if it has a leak or if it is burning it . does it smoke whe you start it . maybe put a bottle of STP OIL TREATMENT in , and try using a sythentic blend oil . if it calls for 5w30 . run 10w40

it is very bad to run a engine with low oil, it will cause damage to the piston rings, the bearings for the main and rod's, the timing chain, , i would get a quart of lucas oil stabilizer and add the whole bottle to the oil ( it is a quart) you might save it that way
