It wouldn't be the wheels I'd be worried about! While excessive use of 'alloy wheel cleaner' can strip off or discolour the laquer coating on alloys, that's nothing to the scratches and other damage one of these automatic car washes can do to the car. I never put my car through one of these things, if I can't be bothered doing it myself, there's usually some 'boy scout' operation in a local supermarket car park on a Saturday afternoon.

Please don't use car washes they ruin your paintwork and as for your alloys - well they just don't get them clean and soon they will start to pit and then the paint will bubble which will result in you needing new alloys. It only takes about 30 mins to hand wash you car and (I know I'm over zealous) but i clean my wheels with a toothbrush to get in all the little nooks and crannies. I've one car with alloys that I've had for 7 years and they still look as good as new. My others will stay this way as well. We have four cars in our household and it takes approx 2 hrs to wash them every other Sunday. Just don't like dirty cars!.

Hope this helps and have a nice day. ;)

No, I've taken my car through car washes many times and they don't even clean the WHEELS! They, wash like half of it, so when its done, you have half of your wheel clean and the other half is dirty. I would just do it myself. But to be honest with you, the soap they use is the same you buy at wal-mart, it won't hurt you wheels.

LOL forget what damage it can do to your wheels.

Instead consider the damage it will do to the bodywork!! Scratches everywhere. Blasted things.

Do it by hand!!
