Nope: the 'gay flu' killing within 24 hours was a RUMOR circulating gay clubs and the first we heard we were to check our hands and arms for red blotches

The point of writing this was to expose the fear and lack of knowledge those of us on the gay scene experienced at the very beginning when no-one knew anything.

It really touched me, it must have been so hard. Especially with all the rumours and ignorance surrounding AIDS at the time.

It is easy to say look how far we have come in the past 26 years (my lifetime, i was born in 1981), but there is still ignorance towards homosexuals and lesbians. There are still people who think this is strictly a 'gay disease'. They are the same that preach that two men being in love and wanting to be together is wrong.

I found it bittersweet, you must have a great humour.

Very well done. But, you might want to delete that part which suggests AIDS killed within 24 hours. I worked with victims of the disease in 1981, when it was called "Gay Bowel Disease" because the only physical symptoms discernable on examination were hemorragic striations in the anal canal.
The vicitms died of rare pneumonias and Karposi Sarcoma (a rare type of cancer) or a brain infection which heretofore had only been seen in cats.
You might want to have some medical person "vet" the piece for you.

I read this and as a social worker who has worked in the field with people who have HIV or are AIDS defined I want to tell you that I loved the piece and found it more optimistic than some I have read...hope that you continue to write more pieces in the future

The writing is okay and is in considered one of those casual chatting shape. As to content fabric, I have no adventure or training to make a remark one way or yet another. i think on the grounds that it relatively is the historic previous classification it ought to be seen as considered one of those non-public memories of an persons historic previous.
