As an East-Coaster; Michigan is not in my time-zone. Its in the central time-zone.

But geographically, its West of the Applications and East of the Rockies; so in the middle part of the country.

Michigan is in the Eastern timezone so it shouldn't be considered being in the Midwest. West is west, east is east!!

The mid-west region starts in Ohio, actually, which is definately on the eastern side of the country. I'm not sure where it ends though. Probably Kansas-ish.

The mid-west is a old term that is still used today. North American was explored east to west, so at one time, Michigan was the "west", though the west we know (from westerns etc) is Montana, Nevada, California, Utah etc.

Everything from Ohio to the Dakota is west, but not he far west, its the mid-west.
