Don't sign anything for more than 90 days. Even if you stay with the same realtor for a year, keep the contract short in case they don't meet your expectations in the quality of advertisement and representation.

It's negotiable. The agent will want a long contract because it takes much longer to sell these days and advertising costs will be much higher than in a sellers' market. I try to get 1 year contracts now, where before I would do 3 months. Typically I get 6 month contracts now.

There is no standard real estate contract..sign for what you are comfortable with and then reevaluate at the end the service you have recieved and decide to renew or not. Remember..a Realtor can do EVERTHING RIGHT and still you house may not sell..

There's no real standard, but in this type of market, six months is very reasonable, since properties are moving quite slowly, and it may take considerable time and effort to procure a buyer for it.

You can insist on the contract length you want. If the realtor won't agree, find another. One recent poster on this blog had signed a one-year exclusive contract - WAY too long.

You can put it on the market for as long or as short as you like. I ask for 6 months, and that seems pretty typical for my area.

Depends where you live and how much you really want to sell it. If you have a high price for your area you could be like around me where there is many house waiting 2 Years or more.

6 months is the usual, but there are no laws or regulations. You can set it for whatever you want, even one month.
