My friend's guppies were normal, but now I noticed that two females got crooked backs. As if the fish is "bent" in the middle and the tail is pointing down when the fish is horisontal. Any idea why that might be? They are about 2 years old and seem healthy otherwise.

If there are scales missing and lesions on the fish in question, it could be fish TB. If this is the case, the fish must be euthanized and the tank disinfected. Do not put hands into tank as fish TB can be transfered to humans through skin infection.

If there are no lesions or missing scales on the guppies, it could be something simple such as Scoliosis due to vitamin deficiency. I would take stock of what you are feeding the fish and improve their diet if necessary. There are vitamin additives such as " VitaChem" which can be added to fish food or directly into the water, which is absorbed whether or not the fish eats the food.

Hi Snowflake, this may be the result of some stray electricity, check the tank & all electrical equipment for any damaged wires or loose electrical connections.
