there's tons of life. (literally.)
slime mold.
bacteria.
viruses.
OH, you mean inteliigent, technological life?
that's different.
keep in mind, that our system is 4 billion years old.
our technolical society has been around 50 years.
(that's how old transisters are.)
and, several times, we've been at the brink of blowing ourselves up, for various reasons.
there's no reason to think that every other technological society would not go through that form of insanity.
being generous, let's give ourselves 50 more years to do out selves in.
SO, the odds of somene outside the solar system contacting us is 1:40,000,000.
pretty slim.
the odds of some other SPECIFIC technological society contacting us are slimer, allowing for the 15 billion year span of the universe.
if that's not bad enough, think about how far away stuff is.
it would take the space shuttle 175,000 years to get to Alphi Centuri, the nearest star, just to see if there are any planets there.
(that is one way, mind you.)
no, we're not going visiting, and they're not about to come here.
HOWEVER, if there are folks out there, AND, if they can get here, DO we want them to come visit?
I maintain, probably not.
Life becomes dominant by defeating rival forms.
It works here. It works there too.
If they're able to come visit, it's not unlikely that to a great degree, they've depleated the resources at home.
and earth, despite what we've done, is a pretty nice place.
it would not be unlikely that they'd consider us somewhat similar to a pest species, to be cleaned up, before they move in.
i sort'a like things the way they are, thank you.

Almost certainly there is alien life in other galaxies. There is probably a huge amount of alien life right here in our own galaxy. Maybe there is no other life in our solar system, maybe this is the only inhabited world in this system, well so what. Ours is just one star, there are between 2- 400,000,000,000 in our galaxy alone! There's a fair chance that most could have planetary systems. Even if the chance of a world being in the right place and developing life is a tiny fraction of a percent, there could still be millions of worlds. The Drake equation is how the chance of alien life is calculated. We don't have enough information yet to know for sure but when we find our first truly alien lifeform we will be able to make fairly accurate estimates about how much life is out there.
There are also about 80 billion galaxies in the observable universe. The odds that we're alone are, with no pun intended - astronomical.
kind regards

Well DUH. There's hundreds of billions of galaxies with hundreds of billions of stars and planets. It is extremely likely.
As for intelligent life, this is something less likely. Although still possible, consider how many species there are here on Earth, and that only 1 has developed intelligence over the span of billions of years.
However, the distances between the stars and galaxies are so large it is hard for most people to imagine. So intelligent aliens have probably never been to Earth. Even if they are intelligent they might have became extinct or might have different intrests other than space travel, they may be interested in art or spiritual matters or practices we don't have on Earth. Therefore making the concept of space travel not nessecarily universal, and probably exclusive to the human race.
Bottom line is probably, but you will never see an intelligent one.
Excuse me if I answered more questions than you asked.

All these other answers have side-stepped the important basic question that must be answered before you can obtain a proper answer to your question.
Our question to you is: what is your definition of 'life' or 'life forms'?
Usually when the question of life on other planets is made, it is the basic assumption that life as we know it is in question. Life such as things that eat, breathe, grow, reproduce; sometimes the qualification of intelligence is presented.
Even given these narrow parameters, there is very likely to be life on many other worlds; in the same line of reasoning that our sun is not unique, that there are billions of billions of other suns (stars) similar to it throughout the universe.
However, science is constrained to say that because we have not proven that there is life on other worlds, we must state that there is no life on other worlds. This situation is very similar to the notion that our solar system was unique in that it had planets in orbit around it. Science had to state that they were no planets in orbit around other stars because it could not be proven that they were there. Now that planets have been detected around other stars, science can state so.
Common sense told us that there are likely to be planets around other stars and we were right. Common sense tells us that if there are other planets around other stars, there are very likely planets that sustain life that is reasonably similar to ours.
So it is likely that there is life as we define it in existence on other planets around other stars.
And up to this point, we have assumed that our common definition of life is "the correct one". 'Life' could be defined in many other ways. The same thing with 'intelligence'.
I believe that your question precedes the question: Have aliens visited our world? If we set aside the limitations of actual space travel between worlds as a complicating, conflicting factor, one has to deal with the immense number of other worlds that may exist even within our own galaxy.
I would think that if we look at the question purely in a statistical fashion, the chances of our planet getting visited are somewhat slim. Let alone being visited by as many different aliens that have been reported over the years.
This still does not rule out the possibility that we have been visited by aliens. What does remain is that science has not been able to prove that it is true. And so, science is constrained by its own Scientific Method to state that such a propostion is not true.
As you can tell, there is no simple answer to your question; unless this is merely a survey of opinion, in which case I say, "Sure!"

Yes there is alien life out there, otherwise the universe aimed rather low and settled for a little less as the human race is just one big sick joke.

There is no reasonable argument to say there is'nt life somewhere out there. We hav'nt even explored the whole of our solar system as yet! there are countless others, and if another has produced a planet with any sort of atmosphere around it life and organisms would thrive upon it!

It's silly to think we're alone considering that there are billions of stars in each galaxy, and there are more galaxies than there grains of sand on every beach on Earth.
Yes, I think there is extra-terrestrial life, but I doubt we'll ever be able to visit... or for them to visit us!

Yes. With billions upon billions of stars and planets in the Universe, we'd be very naive to think otherwise.

Nothing is impossible dear….
We do have a universe we can share after all, with those we call aliens.
But as our intellect would argue, we need to prove this.
There are a lot of testimonies regarding these Aliens in outer space only to get disappointed when all is a hoax in the end. I have heard it all, from kidnapping to appearances…yet no concrete proof.
If they are out there… I think we have a lot of space to share.
And…I welcome them.
Still… to see is to believe dear.
