THE TRUE PART: The rind (skin) of kumquats is the preferable part of the fruit to eat (citrus, but not an orange). Orange or other citrus "zest" is finely shaved rind used to season sauces, etc. when cooking. Candied citrus rinds are used in fruit cakes and other baking. And of course marmalade contains the rind of citrus, including oranges.
THE FALSE PART: But, the rind of fresh oranges is not normally eaten by human beings. Cattle, horses, etc. love oranges, and other citrus, rind and all.
