Yes, breastfeeding can delay a period for the time you are nursing your baby (learned this from friends who nurse and other places I've read up on the subject) which is not a bad thing. For some women it can be a good form of birth control.
I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.

When I Breast fed, I did not have a period. There is not nothing bad about not having a period. Remember you still can get pregnant. I did 11 months later I had my second baby. Make sure you use protection, if you do not want them close together. I had 3 children, I breast fed all of them. My last one, I did not have a period for a year.
I stopped breast feeding my first baby at 4 months old. He had so many problems to formulas. He was colic, after I quit breast feeding him. I kept breastfeeding the other 2, till they were 1. I was lazy, I did not like warming the bottle up in the middle of the night. I never wanted to go through the colic ever again. That poor baby was in so much pain for 4 to 6 hours a night. The screaming and crying was the worst thing to go through. I felt so helpless. Good luck. I think that this is the best thing I ever did. The closeness that you have with your baby, is really special. Those times are the best.

As far as i know breast feeding supresses monthly period that is why others think that it could be use as contraceptive but it does not keep all women for having their periods and when this happen it is not already an effective way of contraception. But with regards to health of yourself and your baby having period or not is completely safe.
I may also add that breastfeeding has many advantages to you and your baby like it helps you return to your normal weight and the milk helps the baby grow faster and fights microorganism that could affect your baby. Also your immunity could be pass to your child through breastfeeding.

breastfeeding is a great way for mothers to lose the weight they gained in pregnancy since it takes alot of calories to make milk. chances are that your hormones are just getting back to naormal from being out of whack for 9 months. it sometimes takes a couple of months to return to a normal 28 day cycle. however, the first few months after pregnancy are months were it is really easy to get pregnant because of the new uteran tissue growing and the increased hormonal activity. so just because you're not having a period, or it is irregular, doesn't mean you can't get knocked up again. if you aren't having one by the 3 month after pregnancy, check with your ob/gyn. or call them monday if it will make you feel better. you can check out some info on www.webmd.com.

Yes, most peole will tell you that you won't start your period until you've stopped nursing. This was true with my mom. She breastfed all 6 of her children and never started her period until she was done nursing us. For me, however, it was a different story. I fully breastfed my children, and with my first baby I started my period when she was 3 months old, and with my second baby she was only 7 weeks old when I started. All women are different. One thing I can tell you is don't rely on breastfeeding as a form of birthcontrol. A good friend of mine was breastfeeding, hadn't started her period again yet, and thought she was fine to have sex with her husband without a condom and she ended up getting pregnant again.
