I can understand where you are coming from; I am 32 and just recently passed my driving test. I love the fact I can go from a to b with hardly any hassle at all. I have always been environmentally friendly so decided to buy a small car with an engine size under 1400.
However, I am also starting to think I do more than my fair share for the environment. I recycle everything and have my loft insulated and all the rest that reduces your carbon footprint. Least this winter I am not going to freeze my behind off waiting for a bus (not environmentally friendly) that doesn’t turn up on time and then it takes me at least 3 times as long to get where I need to be. All I can say is thankfully I passed and now own a car and I will still do my bit for the environment.

I'm not a driver but I do appreciate the freedom of having your own car. My brother drives and I know he enjoys being able to go where he wants whenever he wants. If I could drive I would never use public transport. It just isn't the same as having your own space. Actually, I don't use public transport anyway and I haven't for quite a few years.
As for carbon footprints, there's a lot of evidence which questions whether or not human activity IS contributing to global warming. Governments ignore it though because they can't use it to tax the general public.

Puddy...congratulations...and I am guessing that you live in Europe?
Here in 'Murka, it's darn near impossible to exist without a vehicle (I prefer a truck myself, though in my defense, it's the smallest one available) unless you live somewhere like NYC. There's no public transportation that comes within ten miles of my home, and I'd shudder to use it if it did; it's not clean and well-kept like the buses they have in Canada (and I'm guessing in Europe as well.)
Here in 'Murka we're spread out all over the place. Many people drive fifty or more miles to work each day; my own drive is about twelve. We don't tend to concentrate our populations in large areas like in Europe; everywhere there's a plot of land available, somebody'll build a house on it. Your way's probably better :|
According to what I have read, the biggest polluters are jets, so it makes me wonder why Al Gore is flying all over creation plugging his global warming agenda, which I happen to agree with.
I used to think that computers were a big waste of time and swore I'd never have one! ;)

Yes I thought the average Brit was decent, intelligent and compassionate until I saw the relentless hatred metered out by the hate campaigners here to a couple who have a tiny daughter missing. They have been charged with nothing, you know only what some journalists opinion is. You are not an expert, you have no access to anything pertinent, you're not even averagely bright, if you were,m you wouldn't be spend your time repeating yourself endlessly about nothing to your moronic cohorts. Scary really thinking that someone as slow as you is on the roads, what if you needed to make a snap decision?

Well done to you.. maybe you are now coming round to seeing this global warming hysteria for what it is.. that it is one of natures cycles and there is nothing we can do about it. FACT if you take all the cars and aircraft on this planet and run there engines at full throttle the effect on the atmosphere would be measured at less than 0.01 %. Do not be fooled by the class hating pseudo politico's who want total control your life

I just wanted to say I'm glad you think having your own car is nicer than having to deal with the mess that is public transportatiion. Also, I hope you took the time to learn to drive with a manuel transmission. Have Fun! :)
