I have raised 4 children and am the grandmother of a 2 yr. old. I also do in-home child daycare for the last 10 years.
My first thought after reading this question is the sound of a small child (infant/toddler) who has fallen and hit their head on something , I dont need to see the event - I can just be near and hear this sound and I already know what to look at first. To me this is the worst sound.

Yeah, nails scraping whilst an old man is repeating "Grotto, grotto, grotto!" Or perhaps a regenerator for any RE4 fans!

The silence when you go to wake someone up and they don't.
You never forget that sound no matter how long you live.

The sound of someone smacking their mouth...or kissing. They both drive me insane.
