DNA scientist and Nobel Prize winner James Watson recently stated that blacks are inherently less intelligent than whites.

Leaving emotion and name-calling out of it, couldn't it be possible? There are obvious physical differences, couldn't there be mental differences also?

Of course it's possible, but this is a political/emotional minefield. Notice your first three answers were attacks, not reasoned replies to your carefully worded question.

No, it's not possible.
And you didn't state the whole truth: he apologized and said his words had been misinterpreted.

Watson apologized yesterday in a speech to a private audience at the Royal Society in London, Farquhar-Thomson said.

``I am mortified about what has happened,'' Watson said, according to comments distributed on his behalf by Oxford Press. ``More importantly, I cannot understand how I could have said what I am quoted as having said. I can certainly understand why people, reading those words, have reacted in the ways they have.

``To all those who have drawn the inference from my words that Africa, as a continent, is somehow genetically inferior, I can only apologize unreservedly,'' he said. ``That is not what I meant. More importantly from my point of view, there is no scientific basis for such a belief.''

Theory of evolution was so miss-used, starting with arian race, etc.
If we want to be totally honest here, we must take to account many factors, such as social situation, slavery, poverty...
I honestly don't believe that one race is more intelligent than other, and I think that if only we managed to build a better world where everybody would have same chances and starting positions, situation would be much different than it is now.

Well, anything is possible.
I mean, I would like to think that all humans can be equally intelligent... but if a group of people remained isolated from the rest of the developing world for too long, (like thousands of years) then yeah I guess they would have their work cut out for them.
But then again, what realm of intelligence did this James Watson guy speak of? It's pretty much impossible to measure intelligence because there are so many aspects of it.

I do not agree that there is any relation between intelligence and skin color. There have been numerous super intelligent persons in the world history who were not white. .Such generalization does not befit a noble lauret. It does inflate ego but is devoid of any substance.

Yes, he says they haven't "evolved" as much as others. You know that is just one of the problems of believing in evolution. It opens the door to believing that one race can be superior to another. Adolf Hitler believed in evolution and that they were superior to Jewish people. Result of that belief = 6 million dead Jewish people. I believe that we are all created equals and no that nobody is any better, for whatever reason, than anybody else. Funny thing is, if Rush Limbough would of said that the loony liberals would be crawling out of the woodwork to persecute him, but because a "scientist" said it and used evolution as the reason the liberals must remain silent for fear of possibly having to say something negative about the theory of evolution.

I know some pretty stupid white people. It would be hard to find people of any race dumber than they are. In fact I would venture to guess many animal species are smarter than they are. I might even give a rock the edge on IQ to some of the corn poe bumpkins I know
