How long will it take first division college football to switch to some version of a playoff format? or do you think they will use this inadequate system for the forseeable future?

I dont want to turn down anybody's answer but for those that say its worked for hundreds of years. Thats wrong. They used to have a few bowl games but not one was considered the "championship game" the champion was decided purely on poles. Then Im not sure when but less then 20 years ago they put in the bcs to decide a true champion. So if they thought that an 80 year old tradition could be changed what is so bad about changing a less then 20 year old tradition? Also they add bowl games every year... isnt that messing with tradition since we used to only have about 3 bowl games?

truth be told i think division 1 college football doesnt need a playoff system. i dont think it would work. because lets face it. you have 11 conferences. acc big east big 10 big 12 conference usa mountain west pac 10 mac wac and sun belt sec. lets assume each conference champion gets an automatic playoff bid. like the nfl the top 12 teams make the playoffs with the the top two teams getting a first round bye. ok if college football follows that format. then how do you come up with 12 best team in the nation of the non conference winners? what about the Division 1 independents like Notre Dame who dont play in a conference? do they get excluded? i think for over a hundred years it has worked with maybe a few years of controversty. i think this new crop of unreal football fans are the ones who want a playoff. the real football fans say keep it the way it and play the games on the field. we dont need an extra 4 or 5 games in the college season to determine a national champion.

I say we need a hybrid system. Keep the Bowls....but the 4 BCS bowl games(Fiesta, Orange, Rose, and Sugar) should be the first round of the playoff system. There would only be 3 extra games at the end of the season(the second round and the national championship game). Granted, there would be some very good teams excluded from the playoffs on occasion, but with this system it will not take away from the importance of the regular season games and the traditionalists still have the precious bowls they so cherish. Bottom line, everyones happy.

Once again, traditionlaist lamers like the one above cloud the system. You DO NOT need every conference participating. Take the top four teams, seed them in 2 of the four BCS bowls, alternating every year. Then use the plus one game a week later to match up the 2 winners and determine a true champion. There is arguement over 2 vs 3, but little over who's 4 vs 5, especially by the end of November.

The actual system has worked for about 130 years, why would you want a playoff now?
This one makes more sense to me than the playoffs. With playoffs, they would have to add one month to the season, starting by the end of July (clases have not even started) or end the regular season in November, take december off because first they are students who have to take finals, and start the playoffs in January, which does not make any sense neither.
The other option is shortening the season to 6-7 games, which would not be enough to play against all the conference rivals.

I trust you thoroughly. There are quite a few communities this season that one and all have valid arguments for being ranked #one million. i'm no longer attempting to discredit Florida in any way. They performed a great season and a great sport against Oklahoma, yet there are in simple terms too many different communities that could validly argue that they deserved a shot on the call. Utah replaced into waiting to bypass undefeated and beat an Alabama team that replaced into ranked #one million for quite a few weeks. regrettably, many pollsters admit that they did no longer even watch that sport. in certainty, some admit to no longer staring at numerous the different celeb adventure-united statesthat happened this season too. Texas replaced into yet another one million loss team with a valid argument. They beat Oklahoma via 10 factors on a impartial website and pulled off a win in the Fiesta Bowl over Ohio State (in spite of the certainty that it wasn't an extremely surprising win). If Oklahoma had beat Florida, i'm no longer able to work out how their loss to Texas does no longer have tarnished their championship glory with the intention to talk. yet unluckily, Chokelahoma strikes lower back. USC is yet another one million loss team with a notably solid argument besides (as much as I hate to assert it because of the fact i'm no longer able to stand them). that they had in simple terms the only million loss and went directly to blow out Penn State. till there's a playoff gadget, there are consistently going to be controversies (except possibly there are in simple terms 2 undefeated communities and that they are the two from BCS conferences). If the NCAA is so against doing away with the bowl video games, why no longer turn them in to the playoffs? Why can no longer the Orange Bowl be the national Championship each and every 3 hundred and sixty 5 days? Why can no longer the Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl be the two playoff video games that ensue till now the Orange Bowl? do away with in simple terms about all those stupid "Random Sponsor is going here" bowls that no-one cares approximately. do away with the "BCS conferences" and supply all human beings a honest shot. If a team from a "vulnerable" convention receives blown out in a playoff, we would know for particular they have been a pretender. in the event that they win all of it, we would know they have been for genuine. not extra stupid guessing video games.

I have no problem with this system. The voters and computers will sort things out properly.
