A landing place or pier where ships may tie up and load or unload.
You're in San Fran right? Go to the Monterey (about two hours south of you) fisherman's wharf and see one up close.. visit the monterey bay aquarium while you are there. :) There are probably wharves closer to you.. but I love Monterey... it's so pretty

Wharf may refer to:
* A fixed platform, commonly on pilings, roughly parallel to and alongside navigable water, where ships are loaded and unloaded.
* The Wharf (Holdings) Limited, a company in Hong Kong
* Mockbeggar Wharf, a sandbank in Liverpool Bay in England
* Red Wharf, a village on the southeast coast of Anglesey, also called Traeth Coch
Not to be confused with
* Worf, a Klingon character in Star Trek

If you are in San Francisco, then head down to Fisherman's Wharf and you'll see for yourself. Lots of tourists and crabs. The only thing I like about that area is In-N-Out burger.
