It's 2007, so guess she's going with the flow of society, and not caving into religious groups and anti whomever groups.....
There are gay people on this planet, many are raising children, so the sooner people deal with the fact, the sooner we humans can get along and not pass down judgment and hatred to future generations....Does it change the "like ability" of the character, no...Maybe she's proving that point.....
