Are you asking about flooring; using concrete backer board? "Wonder Board" is a manufacturer/trade/brand name.

You can walk on it immediately. In fact you have to walk on it at times just to install it.

I use a cordless drill with a Phillips bit; self tapping screws; into the floor joists; or plywood sub floor.

Without koing your intent at all; a bit more detail would help.

Is this being done in preparation for tile?

Agree with Doc 90%, haha, no offence. I use a roofing gun. Most of the manufacters of concrete board recommend roofing nails, but screws work, too. You can use either, nails are just quicker. And you can walk on it immediately after installation.
