How big of an area?
ok it is a process but no one will know. make a templet of the size of the patch also know as "replacement carpet you are going to need"
it might be 4inches by 4 inches or 6x6. you can use a round plate to use as a pattern for a perfect match,
go to the closet that has the same carpet. use a sharp carpet knife, or knife and cut out the patch.
go to the spill, cut out the same . Use carpet tape or general house hold glue down to hold the carpet patch in place, repeat the same process in the closet. If you are very careful, you won't be able to tell at all,
make sure you have the patterns matched if it requires.

There is a method of "clip and graft". If you can find a reasonable facsimile of your carpet, clip out the ruined part, and , basically, glue in your replacement. To get the texture right, practice on a piece of the same "above ground".

Try using Shout...the laundry spot remover. This worked for me but the nail polish was still wet when I used it.
