That depends a lot on where you live, and your society's definition of poverty. In Western terms, you can be poor because you don't have enough for "essentials" as defined by that society. This could mean you don't have enough money to pay for rent, food, utilities, your children's needs, etc.
In some African countries the poor have literally nothing - no food, no shelter, no possessions.

Salam
It depends on the meaning and if its materialistic.
To be poor is to be without the Lord that is the greatest loss of all.
To be poor in this life is not always bad, depends on how you got that way. To return the rope straight and fix the knots helps greatly and whatever effort you do, well its just a blessing cause your trying to be rich here and there that is the goal of course. But if its not done in patience and peace then everyone is going to loose including yourself.
A smile is a blessing and so is a bit of understanding. Some listening is too much and some complaining is not needed.
The effort is what it takes and to go out on a tangent in whatever it is, is not balanced life. Everyone is intitled to a clean table. What is around them makes the table less or more.
Khair inshAllah
Choice is always yours and yours alone, but those around you have on you as your Lord has on you.
Spiderman - Justice League Cpu (I am going to stay on here with the gang, its way too hard alone. Al most went into a tail spin with all that evil out there. Halloween is coming yee haa, going to gain good 30lbs between now and New Year!
Notice how there is allot of different calanders in the world?)
Peace on earth and those who work in goodness are rewarded here and there no doubt about it just look around at all the hard working people. A choice is needed and sometimes 2 arms and legs are not enough. Look around and see where you can help and see the loss and fill the cracks and gaps and untie the knots in peace and patience as a unit. I never seen an animal not have some hub and spoke structure
Peace!

You can be poor in many different ways. You could be poor in health, socially poor, monetarily poor, you could be poor at doing some skill. So I guess poor means lacking in some way to acheive a level of being secure in an area.

I believe it means to lack something.
Example:
That person's education is poor.
It doesn't necessarily have to do with money.
