You can fly there for about $150 or you can goto Reno which is a lot closer (only about 4 hours).
Why sit on a bus for 12 hours?

Megabus from San Jose caltrain station( 9:30am) to LA( 2:30pm)
and transfer another bus( 3:30) and arrive Las Vegas(7:30pm)
Total ticket( $10+8), vegas hotel $35( tropical ave near strip)

I just saw a toll free # on TV a few times about 3 days FREE at a top hotel resort in vegas...you just have to get yourself there! When you call this toll free number. (you may have to listen to 1/2 hour time share seminar to rate the hotel but I have done those things and they are worth the free hotal stay..check it out!
