CHKDSK

To get to CHKDSK, open a Command Line window (formerly known as a DOS-Box).

At the Command Prompt, type: CHKDSK /?
On the keyboard, press: Enter

The CHKDSK /? command will give you a brief rundown on how to use CHKDSK.

If you are using an older version of Microsoft Windows (such as 95, 98, 98 SE), replace the command CHKDSK with the command SCANDISK.
