I admit, the only reason I was shocked was because I was right. When I read the whole thing between Dumbledore and his love interest (not even going to attempt to spell it), I suspected that his love went deeper than friendship. Love makes us blind until something really bad happens, and that's EXACTLY what happened. So yeah, I thought there was gay-love-interest there, but I tossed the idea because I never thought in a million years JKR would make a gay character.

I've been reading other posts about this, where people ponder about the "relationship" between Harry and Dumbledore. I couldn't agree more with Tonk's reply: Dumbledore is a lovable old man who chooses to be celibate. His sexuality is of no concern. Plus, I think Dumbledore views Harry as something of a son, since he himself never had any children. Because of his friendship with Lily and James, his involvement with protecting Harry, helping Harry through battle after battle... In the end, he was more like a father-figure to Harry and anything.

I could go on all day and night, but I'll spare you.

I agree with the first person here. Dumbledore is above all of this. Dumbledore is a wise old hermit monk. He loves everyone in a pure way. Sex has nothing to do with it. He is celibate. Why does it seem that the whole world, or at least the younger members of it, can't see anything but sex everywhere. (And I thought that Rowling was able to see that it wasn't important to the teachers. But it must have been to her, just look at what first name she gave to Tonks. We know what was on her mind.)

I think that Rowling has a self defeating behavior thing going on here. She has just shot herself in the foot. How totally stupid!! She wanted people of all ages to read and follow the teachings of Dumbledore and they have. The HP books have united the world. Now this adds an element of division. What a stupid thing to do by an other wise brilliant woman. Maybe she is off her Valium or something. I am very disappointed in her. If someone had to be gay, it could have been, as someone said, Lockhart or even Shacklebolt or some minor character. But not Dumbledore. And I agree with the person that said 'these are children's books'. There is no sex in children's books. Give me a break. I wish I could talk to that woman.

I agree with Serena. Dumbledore, gay or not, is a very loveable wizard. I personally coudn't care less if he was gay or not.

But I think it was a smart move on Rowling's part to incorporate a gay character in such a popular series. Our children need to be exposed to homosexuality early and must know that it is normal. This promotes tolerance and acceptance in the future generations, and does not encourage homophobia, as we have seen with some members of this respectable forum, such as that one Christian who thought that it was unacceptable.

I am actually. I didn't expect homosexuality to be an issue. I didn't expect any sort of sexuality to be an issue. And it doesn't change my feelings towards Dumbledore's character,(as one of my All-time favorites).
